Your month on Fresha

A month's Fresha fees

Put in your own month. Every box is an example. Everything stays in this browser.

Plan$44.95
Card fees$121.76
New client fees$68.00
Texts over the free ones$6.00
A month, before GST$240.71
A month, GST in$264.78

That's 3.9% of a month's bookings, GST in.

The same month on Yamate

The 3-person plan$29.00
PayTo fees, through your own Stripe$92.00
New client fees$0.00
Texts$0.00
A month, all in$121.00

That's $143.78 a month less, $1,725.36 over a year. If every client paid by card instead, it's $165.00 a month.

Rates from Fresha's pricing page, read 27 October 2026. The GST line adds 10% to the total. The new client fee is worked on your average booking. An estimate, your Fresha statement is the real figure.

Yamate's side has every client who pays online or in the salon paying by PayTo, straight from their bank, at Stripe's 1% + A$0.30, never more than A$3.50, GST included. The card line uses Stripe's 1.65% + A$0.30 for an Australian card. Both as at October 2026. You switch PayTo on in your own Stripe account, the money goes there, and Yamate takes nothing from it. There's no GST in Yamate's plan, and texts are included with fair use. Source: Stripe, Pricing, Australia, read 29 October 2026.

The example is a solo stylist with 80 bookings at $85, most paying online. Change the share paid online and watch the card fees, then the new clients, which move the bill most. Yamate has no new client fee, however the client found you, so on Yamate the new clients box changes nothing. And a client paying by PayTo, straight from their bank, costs you about a third less than a card on an $85 booking.

The new client fee

The marketplace fee is charged once, when someone finds you on Fresha's marketplace and books online, and it's worked on "the value of their first completed appointment". Fresha's help centre says it doesn't apply when "The client already exists in your Clients list when they book their first appointment" or "The client has been imported into your Clients list before they make their first appointment booking."

So import your whole client list before you switch the marketplace on, every past client with their phone and email. Then a regular who books through the marketplace isn't charged as new. Fresha's own advice is the same, "make sure all contact details for your existing clients are imported into your business account."

When the fee still applies

If you or your team cancel the appointment for the client, "the Marketplace new client fee will still apply". It also applies if the booking is rescheduled or left unmanaged. Only a client cancelling online in their own Fresha account defers it to their next booking. Fresha says the fee has "a maximum cap for higher-value services", but the pricing page doesn't print the cap, so the calculator leaves it out.

Fresha Payments

Card fees are the line that grows with you. Online payments cost more than card payments in the salon, so a deposit or a prepayment taken online costs more to collect than the same money tapped at the desk. If clients confirm a booking with a saved card, the help centre says "a card capture fee applies for that appointment", whether the money is later charged or not.

Deposits on Fresha

A Fresha payment policy takes either a deposit or a saved card. A deposit can be "a percentage or fixed amount of the total appointment value", refundable until a time you choose or not at all, with an optional no-show fee as a percentage. You can set it for every booking, or only for some services, client groups such as new clients, or appointment values.

Charging the no-show is a tap you make, and only on the day. Fresha says "The option to set a no-show is available only after the appointment start time and until the end of the same day." Whatever the app allows, the policy the client agreed to has to be fair, and our salon cancellation policy template writes one.

Leaving Fresha

You cancel the plan yourself, in Settings, Billing, Subscriptions. Fresha says "After cancelling, your subscription will not renew for the next billing cycle. Access to your workspace will be removed, and your marketplace profile will be unlisted."

Source: Fresha help centre, Manage your Fresha plan, read 27 October 2026.

So export first. Your client list downloads as Excel or CSV from the Clients list, and appointments export as PDF, CSV or Excel. Clients' saved cards don't come with you. Fresha says card details "cannot be exported or transferred", so clients add their card again wherever you move.

What Fresha does well

Salon owners rate the booking side. Of the 87 reviews of the Fresha for business app on Apple's Australian App Store (counted 27 October 2026), 47 give 4 or 5 stars, and they praise how easily clients book online, the reminder texts and the deposits. One owner wrote that with the reminder texts "there is no excuse for no shows or late visits".

The marketplace is the weak part. Only 1 of those reviews says outright that the Fresha website brought in new clients, and 2 more thank Fresha for more clients without saying where they came from. 8 say the new client fee was charged for clients who found them through Google, Facebook or a friend, or who were already regulars. One local business wrote "the majority of our clients are not acquired through the Fresha Marketplace". Fresha's own rules explain it. To take online bookings through your website or social pages "your profile must be listed on the Marketplace", and the fee also covers clients who "view your Fresha marketplace profile first and then choose to book through another online channel including your website or social media pages".

So count the new client fee as part of the price, not as advertising. Import every client before you go live, and check each new client fee on your first statements against how that client really found you. Work out what an hour in your chair costs and you'll see what a fee on a first visit takes out of it.

Yamate sells booking and invoicing software to salons and tradies, so we compete with Fresha. Every Fresha figure here is from Fresha's own pages, dated, and this page and its calculator are free and ask for nothing.
