Fill in your invoice
Everything stays in this browser, nothing is sent or kept. The example is a colour and cut with a retail product and a deposit paid at booking, change it or start blank.
Does it meet the ATO's rules?
The totals come from the same builder as the Yamate quote templates, in whole cents, with GST worked on the subtotal and rounded half a cent up, the ATO's total invoice rule (Tax invoices, rounding of GST, read 27 October 2026).

Hairdresser invoice template
One line per service, one line per product, and the stylist's name in the line if more than one of you works the floor. "Cut and blow-dry, Jess" settles the "who did my colour" question months later. Put retail on its own lines. It's the same GST as a service, but it keeps your product sales easy to count when you work out what retail actually earns you.
Most salon clients pay on the day, so the invoice is really a receipt with the details a tax invoice needs. The template above dates it today and says it's paid on the day, change that if you bill a regular client monthly.
Receipt or tax invoice?
It comes down to whether you're registered for GST. business.gov.au says "Tax invoices – GST-registered businesses must use these." Not registered, you give a plain invoice or receipt with no GST on it, and "By law, you must still give customers a receipt if the goods or services were over $75 or they ask for one."

Registered, a tax invoice under $1,000 needs 7 details, including the words tax invoice, your name and your ABN. "Tax invoices for sales of $1,000 or more also need to show the buyer's identity or ABN", which a bridal party or a full set of extensions can reach. And if a client asks for a tax invoice, "you must provide one within 28 days", unless the sale is $82.50 including GST or less. What a tax invoice must show has the full list.

You must register once your GST turnover reaches $75,000 a year. That's about $1,450 a week through the till, so a busy chair gets there sooner than people expect.

Showing a deposit already paid
Show the full price first, then the deposit, then what's left. The template does it when you put the deposit in, "Less deposit paid" and "Paid today" under the total. The client sees they paid $40 at booking and $90 today for a $130 colour, and your books match the money that came in on both days.
Your price list shows prices with GST in. business.gov.au says "If you display or advertise prices, always include the total price." The template adds GST on top of each rate, so type the price less its GST, $110 for a $121 colour, and the total comes back to your list price. A deposit is part of that price, never an extra.

Invoicing a no-show or late cancel fee
Put it on its own line, "Late cancellation fee, 14 March colour, per our policy", so there's no argument about what it was for. If you're registered for GST, it carries GST like the service would have. The ATO's ruling on cancellation fees says "It does not matter whether the fee is charged separately or taken out of deposits or other monies already paid."
Source: Australian Taxation Office legal database, GSTR 2009/3, cancellation fees, paragraph 45, read 27 October 2026.
The fee has to be one the client agreed to before booking. The cancellation policy template writes that policy.
Keep every invoice
business.gov.au says "By law, you need to keep most business records for at least 5 years." Numbered invoices from day one make that easy, and they're what your accountant asks for at tax time.

Yamate sells software to salons and tradies. The template on this page is free and asks for nothing.
General information, not tax advice and not legal advice. The check reads the ATO's published tax invoice rules and doesn't know your business, so check with the ATO or your accountant before you rely on it. You lodge your own GST and tax.
