Switchboard Electrician

A licensed electrician can inspect a switchboard fault, assess a tripping circuit, replace suitable protective equipment or explain a planned change. A full upgrade is not always the right first step. Tell the business what is happening and whether the job is urgent or planned.     What can a switchboard electrician assess?

    An electrician can investigate tripping, damaged or outdated components, extra circuits and capacity for new equipment. The needed work depends on the installation and applicable state rules. Do not open the board yourself. If a protective device repeatedly trips, describe that symptom and ask for fault testing rather than ordering a replacement part.

Queensland’s Electrical Safety Office says an upgrade is not required in every case when adding equipment; a qualified person must assess the actual installation.

    Compare inspection, repair and upgrade quotes

    Ask what the initial inspection includes, which tests will be done, and whether the quote separates necessary repairs from optional improvements. For a proposed upgrade, request the reason, components, supply isolation, testing, certificate or inspection requirements, GST and exclusions in writing. Do not assume a photo of the board alone settles the design.

    Do I need a new switchboard if one circuit trips?

    Not automatically. A licensed electrician should test the circuit and explain whether repair or an upgrade is warranted.

    Can an electrician quote an upgrade before visiting?

    It may offer an estimate, but the board, supply and planned loads usually need assessment for a reliable scope.
