In the Northern Territory only a plumber holding an advanced tradesman licence from the Plumbers and Drainers Licensing Board can contract for and carry out plumbing and draining work. The Board’s pages say nothing about gas, so we make no claim about who holds a gas licence here.

What to ask before you say yes
Ask for the licence number and check it on the register before any money changes hands. In most states the business holds a contractor licence and the person on the tools holds their own, so ask which one you are looking at. And ask for a written quote with GST in it, if that gets a shrug, that is your answer.

Do I need a licensed plumber for a hot water system in the Northern Territory?
Yes. The Board says only a plumber with an advanced tradesman licence can contract for and carry out plumbing and draining work, and a hot water connection is plumbing work. A journeyman can do it under that person's supervision. Check the licence on the Licensing NT register before they start.
Can the same plumber do the gas work?
The Plumbers and Drainers Licensing Board page covers plumbing and draining, not gas, and we have not read the Territory's gas licensing page. Ask who holds the gas licence, which body issued it, and see it before gas work starts. If nobody can show one, the gas work waits.
Is this every plumber in the Northern Territory?
