Getting your trade business found online (without wasting a weekend on it)
Most tradies don't lose work because they're bad at the job. They lose it because someone searched for what they do, found three other businesses first and never got past page one.
1. Your Google Business Profile matters more than your website
When someone searches "plumber near me" the first thing they see is the map pack. Three businesses, a star rating, hours and a photo. Not a list of websites.
Claim your profile if you haven't already. Keep your hours accurate. Add real photos of finished jobs instead of stock images. Ask happy customers to leave a review right after the job while it's still fresh in their mind. This one's free and it usually does more for your leads than anything else on this list.
2. A simple website is still worth having
You don't need twelve pages. You need something that loads fast, looks legit on a phone and makes it obvious what you do and how to get in touch. Plenty of tradies run off a Facebook page alone for years and that's fine until someone searches your business name and finds nothing to back it up. A basic site is your credibility check.
3. Local SEO is a little bit, regularly, not a fix-it-once thing
Match your content to how people actually search. "Emergency plumber Parramatta" gets typed into Google all the time, but a generic "Our Services" page won't rank for it. Keep your business name, phone number and address identical everywhere — your website and your Google listing included. Keep collecting reviews too. Five reviews and fifty reviews are two very different businesses, both to a customer and to Google.
4. The real leak isn't traffic. It's response time.
Getting found online is only half the job. If you're up a ladder and miss a call and don't get back to them quickly, there's a good chance the next name on the list already has the work. Nothing personal in it, that's just how people shop for trades now.
Honestly the single biggest thing I've seen make a difference for clients is something as simple as an automatic text back the moment a call gets missed. Small fix, but it's solving the exact moment where most leads actually disappear.
